Ethereum's treasury expands through SharpLink, amidst ongoing stock decline
SharpLink Aggressively Expands Ethereum Holdings, Faces Stock Fall Amid Market Volatility
In a bold move, SharpLink, a leading company, has been aggressively purchasing Ethereum since August 10, 2025, aiming to build a massive ETH treasury. This strategy, funded through its at-the-market (ATM) equity program, has seen SharpLink more than double its Ethereum holdings since June 2025, accumulating nearly 800,000 ETH valued at around $3.7 billion [1][2][3][4].
The company's current Ethereum holdings make it one of the largest corporate Ethereum holders, a position that carries substantial appreciation potential tied to Ethereum's market price. SharpLink complements its ETH accumulation with staking rewards income and retains significant liquidity to continue expanding or support the share price through stock buybacks [1][2][3][4].
However, this aggressive ETH accumulation strategy has come under pressure due to Ethereum's recent volatility. In the past five days, Ethereum's price has fallen from $4,788.55 to $4,207.22, a decrease of $581.33, and SharpLink's stock (SBET) has followed suit, falling 19.85% [5]. As of now, Ethereum is hovering around $4,300.
SharpLink's strategy makes it a leveraged bet on Ethereum, a fact that becomes evident in the company's "ETH Concentration" metric, which measures ETH held per 1,000 diluted shares outstanding. This metric has risen above 4.0, reflecting increased crypto reserves per share and a strategic linkage of treasury growth to shareholder value [1][2][3][4].
To mitigate the impact of market volatility and enhance shareholder value, SharpLink recently authorized a $1.5 billion stock buyback program. This program aims to optimise capital allocation and support the stock price, especially when trading at or below the net asset value of its ETH holdings [1][2][3][4].
In addition to debt and equity financing, SharpLink is also experiencing increased outflows from Ethereum ETFs, which could potentially impact its ETH accumulation strategy [5]. Despite these challenges, SharpLink remains committed to its long-term value creation strategy for shareholders while advancing Ethereum adoption.
