EU Approves €98.6M Emergency Aid for Farmers Hit by Extreme Weather
The European Union has approved €98.6 million in emergency aid for farmers in Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, and Hungary, affected by extreme weather and natural disasters since spring 2024.
The EU Member States agreed to the European Commission's proposal to mobilize these funds from the agricultural reserve. The Ministry of Agriculture has begun collaborating with farmers' NGOs to determine how to distribute the aid.
The emergency aid amounts to €68 million for Spain, €16.2 million for Hungary, €6.7 million for Croatia, €4.2 million for Latvia, and €3.5 million for Cyprus. Member State authorities have until September 30, 2025, to ensure the aid reaches the affected farmers.
The European Commission has proposed the allocation, but the disbursement will be managed by national institutions in each member state, following EU procedures. This aid aims to support farmers who have suffered losses due to extreme weather and natural disasters.
