EU Hosts EPBD Webinar on 23 Sept to Support Energy-Efficient Buildings

The European Commission is hosting a web seminar on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) on 23 September. This event follows the successful collaboration with member states in drafting new rules for future houses and buildings.

The EPBD, revised in 2018, sets ambitious targets for non-residential buildings. By 2030, these buildings must achieve a 16% reduction in energy consumption, and by 2033, a 26% decline.

Dan Jørgensen, the Commissioner for Energy and Housing Policy, has returned to the topic, highlighting the directive's importance. The new European standards resulted from close cooperation with member states and a dedicated platform for sharing best practices. The upcoming webinar aims to support EU institutions and national governments in implementing these jointly developed rules.

The webinar on 23 September will provide crucial guidance for implementing the EPBD. Despite some criticism, the directive's goals align with the Green Homes Directive's targets of reducing housing unit consumption by at least 16% by 2030 and 20-22% by 2035. The European Commission stands ready to support member states in achieving these vital energy efficiency objectives.
