European organization AETIS selects fresh leadership to spearhead expansion of EETS within Europe

The Association of European Tolling and Interoperability Services (AETIS) has undergone a significant change in leadership, with Francesco Maria Cenci of Telepass being elected as the new chairman. Cenci, who replaces Eva Tzoneva after a decade in the role, will lead the organisation in its mission to advocate for improved EU regulations and ensure fair and transparent market conditions for Electronic Toll Service (EETS) providers.

In the election held during the AETIS General Assembly in Rome, Italy on 5 February 2025, Jérôme Lejeune of DKV was also appointed as the secretary general of the association. The new leadership team will also include Marco Siragusa of Verra Mobility and Felix Wex of Toll4Europe, who have been appointed as board members. Antonio Costa of Eurotoll Lumesia has been appointed as the treasurer.

With the new leadership in place, AETIS will focus on fostering technological innovation to ensure a seamless tolling experience. The organisation will engage with policymakers on upcoming road user charging schemes in Denmark (2025), Netherlands, and Alsace (2026).

The new AETIS board is committed to adjusting the EETS regulatory framework to support the needs of both the industry and road users. However, no information was provided about the advancement of the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) or the progress made in this area.

A global Road User Charging Conference series is being organised by Akabo Media, with events planned in Brussels (March 2025), Abu Dhabi (May 2025), Miami (September 2025), and Singapore (October 2025). These conferences aim to provide insights, share innovative ideas, and network with global leaders driving the transformation of transportation systems.

Francesco Maria Cenci has expressed his commitment to ensuring fair and transparent market conditions for EETS providers, reflecting the new board's focus on promoting a level playing field for all providers. The new leadership team is poised to drive AETIS forward in its mission to shape the future of tolling and interoperability services in Europe.
