European Private Credit strategy initiated by Carlyle

In a significant move, investment firm Carlyle has announced the launch of a new semi-liquid European Private Credit strategy. This strategy aims to provide current income to individual investors, offering flexibility and access to investment opportunities previously only available to large institutional investors.

The European Private Credit strategy is part of Carlyle's expanding fund suite for the private wealth channel. Shane Clifford, the head of Carlyle wealth strategy, is leading the charge. Fernando Chueca, managing director at Carlyle Europe Technology Partners, is responsible for the strategy in Europe.

Unlike the Carlyle Tactical Private Credit Fund, which focuses on North American private credit markets, the European Private Credit strategy invests directly in deals by the Global Credit platform. However, it may offer access to private credit markets different from those offered by the Carlyle Global Credit platform, given its focus on Europe.

The strategy is designed to allocate assets to a wide range of credit strategies where Carlyle has proven investment expertise. This includes direct lending, opportunistic credit, and real assets credit. The strategy offers individuals a single entry point to Carlyle's Global Credit platform.

The European Private Credit strategy is a milestone in Carlyle's efforts to provide individual access to private markets, particularly in Europe. It is worth noting that European asset managers maintain strength in US ESG support, as it dips below 50%.

The strategy aims to generate income with a focus on downside protection, although this is not explicitly mentioned in the European Private Credit strategy unlike the earlier mentioned strategy. The Global Credit platform leverages its size, capabilities, and integrated approach to tailor solutions across the capital structure for borrowers.

In conclusion, the new European Private Credit strategy provides an exciting opportunity for individual investors to tap into the private credit market in Europe, offering the potential for current income with a focus on downside protection.
