Europe's Joint Crackdown on Labor Exploitation Nets 17 Investigations
In a joint international effort, authorities across Europe recently conducted action days to combat labor exploitation and dismantle criminal groups involved in human trafficking and illegal employment. The operation, held in September, targeted catering businesses in several regions, including Aachen, Euskirchen, and Heinsberg.
The Main Customs Office Aachen, a regular participant in these European control days, inspected 13 restaurants and snack bars. They checked the identity of 56 people, leading to 17 investigations. These checks uncovered various offenses, including illegal residence, aiding and abetting, minimum wage violations, wage withholding, and hour recording duty violations.
In the district of Euskirchen alone, one wanted person was handed over to the police, and three criminal charges were filed. The operation's success highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating such crimes. The Hauptzollamt Aachen continues to be a key player in these efforts, working tirelessly to protect workers and uphold labor laws.
The recent joint international action days have resulted in significant progress in the fight against labor exploitation and human trafficking in Europe.
