Berlin Messe Exhibition Company Records Exceptional Income - Exceptional Showing at Messe Berlin: Breaking Previous Records
Messe Berlin, the state-owned exhibition company in Berlin, has announced outstanding results for 2024, surpassing records set in previous years. The company reported a total turnover of €480.8 million and an annual surplus of over €50 million.
Of the total revenue, €325 million was generated from exhibitions, congresses, and events alone. Notable events that contributed to this figure included the International Green Week Berlin, ITB Berlin, and the world's largest transport technology and mobility fair, Innotrans.
The profitable events business saw a 50% increase compared to 2018, totaling €30 million. The remaining revenue was generated by the Tegel Welcome Center for refugees, which provided planning, construction, security, and service services for the Land Berlin. The center contributed €25 million to Messe Berlin's income in 2024.
CEO Mario Tobias expressed satisfaction with Messe Berlin's performance, acknowledging the company's success amidst fierce international competition. For the future, Messe Berlin has outlined plans to increase its international presence.
Recent international events hosted at Messe Berlin include Gitex Europe, and future plans include the Smart Health Asia congress in Singapore (July 1-2, 2026), ITB Americas in Mexico (November 10-12, 2026), and two more events to be announced in June.
Tobias highlighted the advantage of hosting international events, stating that it prevents competition in other locations and helps establish strong brands like ITB and Fruit Logistica abroad. These events also attract companies to Berlin, potentially leading to positive impacts on the local economy. Foreign events accounted for 5% of Messe Berlin’s turnover in 2024 and could increase further this year, according to Dirk Hoffmann, CEO of Messe Berlin.
Messe Berlin, well-known for its role as a major venue for international events, is expected to remain a sought-after site for global events in 2025. However, specific details regarding Messe Berlin's direct international expansion, such as upcoming events hosted or organized in Mexico and Singapore, are not yet detailed in the most recent press releases or official announcements.
- Messe Berlin's CEO, Mario Tobias, has specified that one of the company's future strategies includes expanding its employment policy, aiming to recruit staff with expertise in managing and organizing international events to strengthen their international presence.
