Expanded public transit options unveiled in Dresden for the upcoming year.
New Year's Eve Transportation Adjustments in Dresden
Residents and visitors in Dresden can anticipate enhanced public transportation services on New Year's Eve to cater to the expected influx of people.
Tram Lines
Tram lines will operate according to the Sunday schedule up to 21:00. From 21:00 until 1:45, lines 2, 3, 4, and the replacement service EV11 will run every 10 minutes, while lines 3, 7, 8, 11, and 12 will run every 15 minutes. Other tram lines will operate every 30 minutes. After the fireworks, lines 3 and 9 will have additional trips. From 1:45, all tram lines will run every 30 minutes, with replacement service EV11 running every 15 minutes.
Bus Lines
Normal Sunday schedules will apply until 22:00, with line 62 running every 15 minutes. From 22:00, lines 61 to 66 and 68, as well as lines 77, 80, 81, 84, 86, 90, and 92 will run every 30 minutes, with line 89 running every hour. On-demand taxi services (alita) will not be available, replaced by buses. Lines 70 and 78 will end their service earlier in the evening, while lines 72, 73, 74, 76, 79, 85, 87, and 88 will not be running.
For safety reasons, there will be a roughly 30-minute service pause from 23:45 due to fireworks. Buses and trams will wait at their endpoints or selected city stations during this time. Service will resume after 0:15 to take visitors and fireworks spectators home.
Augustus Bridge Closure
From 22:00 on New Year's Eve until 10:00 on New Year's Day, Augustus Bridge will be closed to all traffic. During this time, tram line 4 will run between Postplatz and Leipziger Straße via Marienbrücke, lines 8 and 9 between Hauptbahnhof and Carolaplatz/Neustädter Markt via Carolabridge.
Elbe Ferries and Mountain Railways
Ferries at Niederpoyritz and Johannstadt will run according to the winter schedule, from 9:30 to 18:30. In Pillnitz, the car ferry will run from 8:00 to 21:30, followed by the passenger ferry until midnight. Mountain railways will run according to their standard schedule. The last trip of the funicular will be at 20:23, with the cable car running until 18:00.
Current schedules and details can be found at bus and tram stops, in all DVB service centers, by calling the DVB service phone at 0351 / 857 1011, or online at www.dvbag.de. The "DVB mobil" app also shows all current trips and connections.
Those who wish to use public transportation on New Year's Eve should get a ticket in advance. Ticket machines at stops and on board will remain in operation, but disruptions are possible. A defective machine is not an excuse for riding without a ticket. Mobile machines on buses and trams sell already activated tickets, while stationary machines at stops sell tickets in advance, which only need to be validated on board. The most convenient and cashless way to buy a ticket is with a HandyTicket or the FAIRTIQ app.
On New Year's Day, normal Sunday and holiday schedules will apply.
Additional trains will be in operation within the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) network to ensure friends and relatives can safely return home after celebrating together. These services supplement those provided by Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB) and regional night buses. The last S-Bahn train to Meißen departs from Dresden Hauptbahnhof at 1:05 AM, and the last departures to Pirna are at 1:00 AM and 2:32 AM. Tharandt and Freital are also reachable by S-Bahn after midnight. An additional S3 train departs from Hauptbahnhof at 1:34 AM. Extra trains will also be running on the route to Kamenz.
S8 tramcars depart from Dresden at 1:34 AM and 2:34 AM, providing a late option for visitors from Großröhrsdorf, Radeberg, or Pulsnitz to return home. Additionally, an extra RB33 train departs from Dresden-Neustadt station to Ottendorf-Okrilla and Königsbrück at 1:41 AM.
Buses operated by VVO night services will be running to ensure a safe return home to the region. The eight night bus lines to Meißen, Radeburg, Ottendorf-Okrilla, Radeberg, Heidenau, Pirna, Dippoldiswalde, Wilsdruff, and Freital will depart from Dresden at around 1:15 AM or 2:45 AM.
For timetable information, please contact all transport companies within the VVO network, visit the website www.vvo-online.de, use the VVO mobil app, or call the VVO info hotline at 0351 8526555.
