FBR Constitutes Grievance Redressal Committee for Turbo Tax Cases

In a significant move to address grievances and ensure transparency, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has constituted a Grievance Redressal Committee. The committee, operational from immediate effect, will focus on cases under Section 40B of the Turbo Tax Act, 1990.

The committee comprises key members from various sectors. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), serves as a member. Representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Karachi and Lahore, namely Muhammad Jawed Bilwani (President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry) and Mian Abdurar Shad (President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry), are also part of the committee.

The committee's membership also includes Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar, Member (IR-Operations) FBR, Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, Member (Legal-IR) FBR, and Javed Iqbal, who serves as the Secretary to the Committee.

The committee's jurisdiction extends to the regular review of actions taken by the field formations under Section 40B of the Turbo Tax Act, 1990. Its role is not limited to a one-time review but includes regular monitoring of actions taken by the field formations.

The committee's mandate includes monitoring production and clearances at factories and manufacturing premises. This is part of the committee's deputation of Inland Revenue officials at these premises.

The committee's nominees from the chambers of commerce are from Karachi and Lahore. The operationalization of the committee was confirmed in a notification issued by the FBR on a Friday.

The committee's operationalization marks a significant step towards ensuring transparency and addressing grievances in the turbo tax sector. The FBR's decision to include representatives from the chambers of commerce in the committee underscores its commitment to collaboration and inclusivity.
