Matthias Kreibich Appointed as CEO of BGV Insurance

Matthias Kreibich, a seasoned financial professional with a rich background in insurance and investment, has been appointed as the CEO of Badische Versicherungen (BGV Insurance) as of August 2025. In an exclusive interview, Kreibich emphasized the importance of not paralyzing the entire organization during his first months in this leadership role [1].

Kreibich's career in the insurance sector spans several decades, with significant stints at various prominent companies. He joined the Inter Insurance Group in 2004 as head of capital investments and served as a spokesman of the board for four and a half years. Before that, he worked at Mannheimer Asset Management since 2000, ascending from department head to managing director.

Before his tenure at the Inter Insurance Group, Kreibich worked at Munich Re, Athene Lebensversicherung, and SV Sparkassenversicherung, where he managed group-wide capital investments. His experience in financial management and investment strategies is expected to be instrumental in his new role at BGV Insurance.

The Baden Municipal Insurance Association, headquartered in Karlsruhe, is a specialist insurer for municipalities in Baden. BGV Insurance offers a wide range of policies, including property, accident, liability, motor, and legal protection, to both private and corporate customers throughout Germany. The company employs over 770 people and manages around 1.8 million contracts with a premium volume of over €391 million.

Kreibich's appointment is subject to the approval of the relevant supervisory authorities. Raimund Herrmann, currently the deputy chairman of both management bodies, will be responsible for the corporate areas of accounting, risk management, and capital investment for the entire insurance group until Kreibich takes over his business area, starting from April 2026. Herrmann will retire from his position thereafter.

Kreibich is also a member of the supervisory board of various Polish subsidiaries of the Inter Group since 2010. Additionally, he served as a board member of the Freie Arzt- und Medizinkasse der Angehörigen der Berufsfeuerwehr und der Polizei from October 2010 to June 2019.

Kreibich's tenure at Mannheimer Asset Management may have provided him with valuable experience in asset management, which could be beneficial in his future roles. His previous roles and experience at BKM Bausparkasse Mainz and the Inter Insurance Group further underscore his expertise in the insurance industry.

As Kreibich prepares to start his work at the beginning of next year, his appointment marks an exciting new chapter for BGV Insurance. With his extensive experience and proven track record, Kreibich is well-positioned to lead the company towards continued success.
