Following a decade of operation, MVG decides to shut down its well-liked service based in Munich.

In the heart of Bavaria, Munich's popular MVG bike sharing service (MVG Rad) is set to undergo a transformation. After a decade of service, the MVG Rad will cease operations on September 30, 2025, but its legacy will live on within the MVGO app ecosystem.

The MVGO app, currently providing access to various sharing services such as e-bikes, e-scooters, and other forms of new mobility, will now incorporate the MVG Rad bikes, including e-bikes, into its platform. This integration will offer users real-time availability, booking, and ticketing for all MVG mobility offerings in a single, seamless experience [1][2].

MVGO is poised to become the primary interface for individual mobility in Munich, consolidating public transit information with all sharing options, including bikes. This move aims to streamline user experience and expand service options post-discontinuation of the standalone MVG Rad system [1][2].

MVG customers can look forward to benefits such as discounted rates and packages via MVGO, indicating continued support and promotion for bike sharing services within this app [2]. The MVG is moving towards a seamless, integrated mobility experience, focusing on the MVGO app as the future access point for shared bikes and other mobility solutions [1][2].

It's important to note that the MVG Mobility Department is currently working on a successor system for the MVG bike sharing service. In the meantime, the stationary modules for MVG bike stations will be gradually dismantled in the coming weeks.

Launched in 2015, the MVG bike sharing service has been a popular option for many residents and visitors of Munich, offering bike rentals at various stations throughout the city with an MVG bike account. The MVG, as a service provider for bus and tram rides in Munich, has played a significant role in promoting sustainable transportation options within the city.

With the discontinuation of the MVG Rad service, users will need to rethink their transportation options. However, the evolution of the service into an integrated, app-based platform under MVGO promises a smooth transition and continued access to bike-sharing services in Munich.
