Forvis Mazars establishes bi-national German-Romanian liaison team for cross-border services

International auditing, tax, and advisory services firm Forvis Mazars unveiled the establishment of its German-Romanian Desk initiative on June 19, a move designed to deliver seamless cross-border tax and legal assistance between Germany and Romania.

Forvis Mazars establishes bi-national German-Romanian liaison team for cross-border services

Forvis Mazars, a leading international audit, tax, and advisory firm, has announced the launch of its International German-Romanian Desk on June 19, 2023. The Desk is aimed at providing integrated cross-border tax and legal support between Germany and Romania.

The Desk brings together a German team of lawyers with a Romanian team of experts, including tax, law, auditing, financial advisory, and the Romanian law firm, Iablonschi & Associates. Edwin Warmerdam, Partner and Head of Tax at Forvis Mazars in Romania, stated that the new desk will provide practical, forward-thinking solutions tailored to clients' specific needs.

Alexander Labus, Law Partner at Forvis Mazars in Germany, highlighted the firm's access to over 170 lawyers advising across all areas of German and international commercial and tax law. Dino Ebneter, Country Managing Partner of Forvis Mazars in Romania, considered the Desk a strategic move to strengthen business ties between Germany and Romania.

Edwin Warmerdam, Alexander Labus, and Ionuț Iablonschi will lead the International German-Romanian Desk, with support from an integrated team of professionals from both countries. Ionuț Iablonschi, Managing Partner at Iablonschi & Associates, expressed that the collaboration with Forvis Mazars marks a strategic step toward building a long-term partnership.

The Desk is designed to support German companies operating in or entering the Romanian market, as well as Romanian businesses expanding into Germany. From a tax perspective, the Desk will help companies navigate complexities of cross-border tax compliance. The Desk also combines local expertise with a deep understanding of both German and Romanian tax systems, providing businesses with clear, strategic guidance.

In 2024, trade between Romania and Germany reached EUR 42.1 billion, maintaining Romania's position as Germany's 17th-largest trading partner. Germany remains Romania's largest trading partner, with investments totaling EUR 17.1 billion as of December 2023, accounting for 14.5% of the closing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) position.

The launch of the International German-Romanian Desk underscores Forvis Mazars' commitment to strengthening business ties between Germany and Romania. The Desk is part of the Marcalliance network, which includes Iablonschi & Associates. This collaboration is expected to further bolster the economic relationship between the two countries.
