German automaker Audi debuts E5 Sportback in China, priced at 229,900 CNY, garnering 10,153 orders in mere half an hour.
In an exciting turn of events, the automotive industry in China has been set ablaze with the launch of the new Audi E5 Sportback. This mid-size sedan, a joint venture between Audi and SAIC Motor, was unveiled on November 8, 2024, and within the first half-hour, over 10,000 pre-orders were received.
The E5 Sportback is built on the Advanced Digitized Platform, a product of Audi's collaboration with SAIC Motor. This platform underpins the car's touring-style design and its advanced features.
One such feature is the E5 Sportback's human-machine interaction through emotional expression. The car is equipped with an AI-powered virtual assistant, aiming to create a more personalised driving experience.
The E5 Sportback is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The rear-wheel-drive variant offers two motor options: 220 kW (295 hp) and 300 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and 5 seconds respectively. For those seeking more power, the dual-motor variant provides options of 386 kW and 579 kW.
The E5 Sportback rivals the Nio ET5 Touring in size, with dimensions of 4,881 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,479 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The Nio ET5 Touring, backed by Huawei-supported Stelato, measures 4,790 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,499 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,888 mm.
The E5 Sportback offers four trim levels, priced starting at RMB 235,900, RMB 269,900, RMB 269,900, and RMB 319,900 respectively. Interestingly, the starting price of the E5 Sportback remains the same as its pre-sales starting price.
The E5 Sportback is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR and utilises an End-to-end Big Model (EBM) driver assistance solution from Chinese startup Momenta. This technology promises to enhance the car's safety and driving capabilities.
The E5 Sportback is based on the concept vehicle, E concept, which was debuted by Audi. This connection to the brand's heritage adds an element of excitement to the launch of the E5 Sportback, marking the first model under the new AUDI brand in China.
In a parallel development, Huawei-backed Stelato also launched its S9T wagon, securing 5,000 orders within the first hour. This competition in the Chinese automotive market is sure to drive innovation and provide consumers with a wide variety of choices.
