Germany's Textile Industry Mixed in October 2021: Growth in Fabrics, Declines in Clothing
The Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Statistisches Bundesamt) has released its latest report on industrial production in the textile and fashion sector for October 2021. The report reveals a mixed picture, with some sectors showing growth while others face significant declines.
The overall textile industry in Spain saw a 7.5% year-on-year decrease in activity in October, according to the Industrial Production Index (IPI). This decline was steeper than the overall Spanish industry's 4.2% decrease. Looking at specific sectors, the clothing industry has experienced an average decrease of 11.9% so far this year.
However, not all sectors within the textile industry faced declines. The leather and footwear sector maintained a positive year-on-year evolution in October, with a 1% increase in activity. Additionally, the manufacture of textile fabrics saw production increase by 18.7% in October.
The textile industry's performance in Spain has been varied in recent months. While the overall industry and clothing sector have seen significant declines, the leather sector and the manufacture of textile fabrics have shown promising growth. As the industry looks towards the end of the year, these trends will be closely monitored to assess the overall health of the sector.
