Gießen's Liebig Street to Close for Major Construction Project
Gießen's Liebig Street is set for a significant transformation starting September 22, 2025, as the city begins a major construction project. The street will be closed to through traffic, and bus lines 3 and 13 will be detoured, affecting public transport and parking.
The project, expected to finish in the first half of 2026, will involve modernizing aging power and water lines, and renewing house connections as needed. This will cause some noise and loss of public parking spaces during construction. Residents, emergency vehicles, and waste collection will still have access to the area.
Bus users should note that the 'Ebelstraße' and 'Welckerstraße' stops will not be served. A replacement stop will be set up on Aulweg during the closure. Gießen City Works (SWG) advises contacting them at 0641 708-1400, visiting their website, or the RMV Mobility Center Gießen for more information.
The Liebig Street construction project, starting September 22, 2025, will bring improvements to power, water, and heating lines but also cause temporary disruptions to traffic, parking, and public transport. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, depending on weather conditions.
