Golden Globes Weekend Draws in 10.1 Million Viewers for the 82nd Spectacle
The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards, helmed by comedian Nikki Glaser, brought in an estimated 10.1 million viewers across CBS, Paramount+, and the CBS app, as per Dick Clark Productions' data from VideoAmp and CBS streaming figures. Although CBS' parent company, Paramount Global, is currently locked in a contract dispute with industry standard Nielsen, this year's event marked a seven percent rise from the 9.4 million viewers at the 2021 telecast, hosted by Jo Koy. This was CBS' debut as the Golden Globes' broadcaster.
Compared to the live 2023 telecast on NBC, the 2025 Golden Globes witnessed a significant leap, although it still fell short of pre-Covid numbers. The NFL Football Chiefs-Broncos clash before the awards ceremony may have contributed to the boost in viewership.
Streaming audiences reportedly grew by nine percent from the previous year, according to VideoAmp overnight figures, making the 82nd Golden Globes the No. 1 broadcast special across television in the last 12 months. It drove 40 million social interactions on the night, becoming the most socially active Golden Globes to date, besting the social media engagement of both the 2024 Oscars and Grammys.
In the current multi-platform entertainment landscape, any growth in viewership compared to the previous year is a positive development. However, the impact of a high-profile lead-in event like NFL Football should not be overlooked, as it can significantly influence ratings.
Nikki Glaser, the host of the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, also saw her event break records, becoming the most socially active Golden Globes to date with 40 million social interactions. At the upcoming 2025 Golden Globe Awards, host yet to be announced, there was a significant leap in viewership compared to the live 2023 telecast on NBC, partly due to the NFL Football Chiefs-Broncos clash before the awards ceremony.
