In a significant move, The Goldman Sachs Group has appointed Rishi Sunak as a Senior Advisor. Known for his background in finance and politics, Sunak will leverage his unique perspectives and insights to advise clients globally on a range of important topics, including macroeconomic and geopolitical matters.

Sunak, who served as the UK's Prime Minister from October 2022 to July 2024, has a distinguished career in politics and finance. Prior to his political tenure, he worked at Goldman Sachs as a summer intern in investment banking in 2000 and an analyst from 2001 to 2004. His return to the firm marks a significant milestone in his career.

Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO, David Solomon, made the announcement, highlighting Sunak's expertise and the value he will bring to the firm's clients. Sunak's role is part-time, and his salary will be donated to The Richmond Project, an education charity he co-founded with his wife Akshata Murty.

In his new role, Sunak will engage with employees worldwide, contributing to the firm's culture of continuous learning and development. He will spend time with Goldman Sachs' people around the world, sharing his insights on the macroeconomic and geopolitical landscape.

Thomas Manetta is moving to a role in Goldman Sachs' human resources team, focused on corporate compensation.

Sunak's appointment comes amidst speculation about the balance between his public and private roles. His high-profile connections and insights have led some to interpret his role as potentially involving activities akin to lobbying. However, Sunak's primary focus is on providing strategic advice, not engaging in politics.

Before his political career, Sunak was elected as the Conservative MP for Richmond (Yorks) in 2015. He held various roles, including Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
