Gomel Customs Seize Third Major Contraband Shipment This Month
Gomel customs officers have intercepted a large shipment of contraband goods at the Russian border, marking the third such incident in the region this month. The seized goods, worth approximately 120,000 Belarusian rubles, were found in a trailer containing 6,000 units of various items.
The driver of the vehicle refused to comply with the officials' instructions, placing his vehicle in the customs control zone. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the entire cargo was being transported across the borders without any accompanying documents. An administrative case has been opened against the driver for disobeying a lawful order of an official. The driver's wife, acting as the carrier, now faces a potential fine of up to 50% of the value of the seized goods, which could amount to around 60,000 Belarusian rubles. The investigation into this smuggling activity is ongoing.
The seizure of this contraband shipment, following two similar incidents in the region, underscores the vigilance of Gomel customs officers in preventing smuggling activities. The legal consequences for the driver and carrier serve as a reminder of the seriousness of such offenses.
