Government designates chairperson and individuals for the National Pay Commission
National Pay Commission Appoints Full-Time Members
The government has constituted the National Pay Commission and appointed three members to serve on a full-time basis for a period of six months. The commission, formed on August 19, 2021, aims to review and recommend changes to the remuneration and allowances of all categories of employees in the government, semi-government, and private institutions or organizations.
Zakir Ahmed Khan has been appointed as the full-time chairman of the National Pay Commission, serving with the status of an appellate division judge of the Supreme Court. Joining him are Mohammad Ali Khan, M Fazlul Karim, and M Moslem Uddin, who have also been appointed as members.
The full-time service for the commission members may have significant implications for their financial and career prospects outside of the commission. It involves a considerable commitment of time and resources and may necessitate a change in their professional or business affiliations. To ensure impartiality in their roles, the members must relinquish their current professions or businesses.
The commission's full-time members are required to sever ties with their current employers or businesses to avoid any conflicts of interest. This may be a significant departure from their previous professional or business activities and may affect their involvement in their current commitments.
The government issued four separate notifications for the appointments, emphasising the importance of the commission's work. The National Pay Commission's recommendations could have far-reaching effects on the remuneration and allowances of millions of employees across the country.
As the commission embarks on its six-month tenure, the members are expected to work diligently to ensure fair and equitable recommendations for all employees. Their full-time service for the National Pay Commission marks an important step towards improving the compensation and benefits of employees in Bangladesh.
