Stoked About the Libation of Cash for Schleswig-Holstein's Growth Boost

Daniel Günther, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister President, is riding high on the division of expenses for the upcoming booze jamboree. "This is a massive achievement," the CDU boy speaker expressed. Municipalities will see their revenue deficits entirely compensated from this year to 2029, amounting to a whopping 13 billion euros. "We're talking big bucks here, mate, funneled directly to the municipalities via VAT," Günther explained.

What we're really toasting to is an economic booster shot, the Growth Booster, that might lead to revenue losses for the federal government, states, and municipalities due to reduced taxes. Since everyone involved in the deal wants the party to continue, federal states like Schleswig-Holstein demanded financial assistance, particularly for over-draft municipalities.

Along with municipalities, states will also receive a generous helping of compensation. Of the expected around 16 billion euros in losses for the states, Schleswig-Holstein will be reimbursed for about half of it, according to Günther. The hike in travel allowance and the slash in VAT rates for chowing down haven't been addressed in this context.

The funds will be splashed across various programs, including initiatives for education and childcare facilities, university makeovers, and a hospital transformation fund. The distribution among the states follows the Köthen agreement's recipe.

Green Finance Minister Silke Schneider put the total amount of compensation for Schleswig-Holstein at 266 million euros over the next four years. There are 34 million euros up for grabs each year for hospital investments and 35 million euros for each of the areas covering education, childcare, and universities.

Thanks to this, Schleswig-Holstein can keep its full-day care sector afloat, swore Günther. Schneider assessed the investment required for full-day care at approximately 330 million euros. "And the state chips in with 85 percent of that, which is roughly 280-283 million euros," Schneider calculated. The federal government is contributing 140 million euros to this cause.

Based on the state government's projections, Schleswig-Holstein will see half of the anticipated revenue losses from 2026 to 2029 evaporate. "The rest - for the time being - amounts to 200 million euros," Schneider reported. "Of course, we assume the economy will pick up now."

Discussions pertaining to compensation for coastal protection also cropped up. Günther confirmed that union-led states, even the likes of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, have pledged their support. "So I've got a hunch that Schleswig-Holstein will also scoop up a share of dough in this area," Günther shared.
