Halloween Spending Hits Record $13.1 Billion in 2025

Halloween is no longer just a one-day celebration; it's a major retail event that's breaking spending records. Americans are expected to shell out a staggering $13.1 billion this year, a 13% increase from 2024.

Consumers are starting their shopping early, with 49% beginning in September or earlier. The average spend per person is projected to reach $114.45, a new record. Halloween costumes are a significant part of this, with spending expected to hit $4.3 billion, and 71% of shoppers planning to buy them.

Pets are also getting in on the action. Pet costumes are expected to reach $860 million in sales. Popular choices include pumpkins, hot dogs, bumblebees, ghosts, and superheroes.

Candy remains the top purchase, with spending projected to hit $3.9 billion. Greeting cards are also gaining popularity, with 38% of shoppers planning to buy them, up from 33% in 2024. Decorations are another big-ticket item, with spending projected to total around $4.2 billion, and 78% of consumers expected to make purchases.

Halloween is now a significant contributor to the U.S. economy. This year, spending is projected to reach $13.1 billion, with costumes, candy, decorations, and even pet costumes driving the growth. Major retailers and e-commerce platforms are cashing in, with small businesses alone spending approximately $25 billion on Halloween-related products.
