Hamburg Leads Europe's Green Hydrogen Economy
Hamburg's Senator for Economics and Innovation, Michael Westhagemann, has highlighted the city's pioneering role in the global green hydrogen economy. With its concentration of expertise and proximity to renewable energy regions, Hamburg aims to become the central hub of Europe's hydrogen economy.
Hamburg's ambition is bolstered by its involvement in the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) program. The city has seen 27 North German hydrogen large-scale projects selected for funding, demonstrating its significance in the field.
To further strengthen its position, Hamburg has joined forces with other North German states in the HY-5 network. This collaboration was showcased at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Bremen, where major projects from five federal states were presented. The event also hosted the 'North Meets North Hydrogen Dialogue', which brought together companies and investors eager to collaborate with the network and the Northern Powerhouse. Though specific names were not disclosed, the event underscored the region's attractiveness for green hydrogen investments.
Hamburg's leadership in the green hydrogen economy is undeniable, with its concentration of expertise and successful funding bids. Through cooperation with other North German states and engagement with international investors, Hamburg is poised to secure its place as the central hub of Europe's hydrogen economy, driving the region towards clean energy independence.
