Hamm Boosts Bus Frequency to Cut CO2 and Boost Passengers
Hamm is committed to enhancing its public transport offerings, with a focus on reducing CO2 emissions and increasing passenger numbers. While no explicit timeline has been set for additional lines or extended 10-minute intervals, the city aims to boost public transport passengers from 45,000 to 70,000 per day by 2035 and cut traffic CO2 emissions by 40% (20,000 tons annually) by the same year.
Starting August 24, a 10-minute interval will be introduced on central bus lines during peak travel times. This initiative is part of the Nahverkehrsplan 2025, which seeks to nearly double the share of public transport in total traffic by 2035. The new interval will run on lines 1/3 (East-West axis) and 10/11 (ring via the main station to Bockum-Hövel) from Monday to Friday between 6:30 and 8:30 am and between 1 and 6 pm. However, this initial phase is set to last until the end of 2026, with further design based on demand data to be decided in the second half of 2026.
Hamm's commitment to sustainable mobility is evident in its plans to improve public transport offerings. While the 10-minute interval is initially limited until the end of 2026, the city's long-term goal is to increase public transport passengers and reduce CO2 emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient transport system.
