Saying Goodbye to Uwe Sterz, Hello to Heiko Hunkel: Changes at the Association of Sparda-Banks

Heiko Hunkel to Assume Position as Chairman of Sparda Bank Association in 2026

It's time for a change at the Association of Sparda-Banks, folks. On Wednesday, they announced that the current board will be shaking things up next year, with Heiko Hunkel stepping into the role vacated by Uwe Sterz upon his retirement.

Who is this fellow Hunkel, you ask? Well, he's a Wirtschaftsprüfer (that's a Certified Public Accountant to you and me) and Steuerberater (Certified Tax Consultant). He's been a part of the Association of Sparda-Banks since September 2013, serving as the head honcho in the Audit Department. With his deep knowledge of the Sparda Group and its existing hurdles, he's primed for the new gig.

So, who's Uwe Sterz? He's been with the association for nearly 14 years and, come June 1, 2026, he's gonna say adios. Hunkel was unanimously chosen by the membership assembly in Frankfurt to replace him. Hunkel's currently 51, so we're sure he'll bring a youthful energy to the table.

And Hunkel won't be alone in his new role. He'll be teaming up with Florian Rentsch, the current Chairman of the Board, to form the new leadership of the association.

So, there you have it. Change is in the air at the Association of Sparda-Banks, and it looks like Heiko Hunkel's ready to take the reins. Let's hope he steers things in the right direction!

In the upcoming changes at the Association of Sparda-Banks, Heiko Hunkel, who holds certifications in both auditing and tax consulting within the finance and business industry, will replace Uwe Sterz in the role of board leadership, having served in the Audit Department since 2013. Uwe Sterz, a longstanding member of over 13 years, is set to retire on June 1, 2026, bringing an end to his tenure.
