Humberto Delgado Airport's Terminal 2 Set to Open in October After Expansion
Humberto Delgado Airport's Terminal 2 is set to open in October following expansion and improvement works. The Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito Santo, confirmed the inauguration date.
The project, valued at over 233 million euros, aims to boost the current hourly capacity from 38 to 45 movements by 2028. The works are progressing as planned.
The responsible concessionaire for these works varies depending on the specific projects. Typically, the Lisbon Airport concession is held by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, S.A., which manages and modernizes Portuguese airports. ANA often collaborates with different contractors for infrastructure enhancements.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has appealed the lack of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in the initial Portela improvement phase. However, both ANA and the government, along with the Portuguese Environment Association (APA), maintain that an environmental assessment is not required at this stage.
Terminal 2 of Humberto Delgado Airport is expected to open in October, following successful expansion and improvement works. The project's progress aligns with the initial schedule, with a total investment of over 233 million euros. Despite an appeal regarding the lack of an Environmental Impact Assessment, all parties involved agree that an assessment is not necessary at this stage.
