In a refreshing update, the outdated vehicle at the location Voßwinkel has been replaced by the new Dekon-P model.
New Decontamination Vehicle Deployed by Voßwinkel Fire Department
In a significant development for emergency response capabilities, the Voßwinkel fire department in North Rhine-Westphalia has received a new decontamination vehicle (Dekon-P) from manufacturer Freytag in Elze, Lower Saxony. This acquisition is part of a statewide strategy to enhance emergency response infrastructure in the region.
The new Dekon-P, based on an all-terrain 18-ton Scania chassis with 320 hp, is larger and longer than the old one, allowing it to accommodate a six-person crew. Just a few hours after being put into service, the new vehicle was deployed for the first time at a hazardous material incident in an industrial facility in Menden.
The Voßwinkel fire department, along with the Neheim fire station, forms the ABC component of the Arnsberg fire department. The new Dekon-P replaces a previous vehicle that has been decommissioned after 25 years of service.
Prior to its deployment, the Voßwinkel firefighters received an introduction to the new Dekon-P. The equipment, which was modernized a few years ago, was transferred from the old vehicle to the Hochsauerlandkreis Center for Fire Protection and Rescue Services (ZFR) in Meschede-Enste.
The new Dekon-P is equipped with specialized decontamination technology and supplies for personnel and equipment exposed to chemical, biological, radiological, or other hazardous substances. It will be stationed at the Voßwinkel fire station and will be used for incidents involving ABC hazards (atomic, biological, chemical). The vehicle can be deployed throughout the Arnsberg administrative region.

The new Dekon-P was officially put into service on the evening of May 20, 2025. This acquisition marks a significant step forward in the Voßwinkel fire department's ability to provide quick and reliable assistance in ABC situations.
The Voßwinkel fire department, as part of the Arnsberg fire department, has expanded its capabilities beyond emergency response and decontamination, venturing into the transportation industry with the acquisition of a new Dekon-P vehicle. This 18-ton Scania vehicle, equipped with specialized decontamination technology, is now a critical asset in the department's finance sector, as it can be mobilized to handle ABC hazards in the automotive, industrial, or any other sector requiring such services.
