Hit a Snag? RZD Steps Up with More Train Seats as Air Travel Falters
Looks like your air travel plans just got a curveball with those flight cancellations and delays due to drone threats and airport restrictions, huh? Fear not, intrepid traveler, as RZD, Russia's rail giant, is ready to roll out the welcome mat with additional seats in trains.
Over a span of five days, from May 7 to 12, passengers will find a whopping 5,000 extra comfy seats waiting for them. RZD's official statement doesn't beat around the bush - they've attached extra carriages to trains on popular routes like Moscow – St. Petersburg – Moscow, Adler – Moscow, Kazan – Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod – Moscow, and more. Keep in mind, there's no shortage of those coveted train tickets at the moment, thanks to RZD.
The recent airport disruptions on May 6 and 7 due to safety concerns, with around 60,000 passengers feeling the heat, have stirred quite the storm. The Association of Tour Operators in Russia reports this mess, caused by operational restrictions in central Russian airports. As of May 8, some 150 flights had been grounded at Moscow's aviation hub, with a two-hour delay on average for arrivals and a 1.5-hour delay for departures.
That said, things are slowly but surely starting to take off again, according to Rosaviatsia. Delays and crowds of people are still an issue at select airports, but for the most part, operations are back in the air. That being said, delays have caused a headache for 2,200 patients waiting for flights at airports in Samara, Ufa, and Yekaterinburg. The busiest airports experiencing delays and cancellations are Sochi (16 flights) and Kazan (11 flights). The Ministry of Transport hopes to have airports in the Moscow region back on schedule by 18:00 Moscow time.
So, if you're twiddling your thumbs wondering what to do now, consider hopping on a train. It seems that air travel is far from smooth sailing these days, but RZD is here to help you get to your destination with ease.
