IndiGo Fined Rs 20 Lakh for Simulator Lapses at High-Risk Airports
IndiGo has been fined Rs 20 lakh by the DGCA for failing to use qualified simulators in pilot training at high-risk airports. The airline plans to contest the order. This comes after a show cause notice was issued to Air India Express for similar lapses at Calicut International Airport.
The DGCA initiated the show cause procedure against IndiGo due to deficiencies in simulator training. The penalty, imposed on September 26, is for not using qualified simulators at Category C aerodromes. These airports, like Calicut, have challenging approaches or complicated terrain.
Over 1,700 IndiGo pilots have received critical airfield training. Despite this, the airline has decided to legally challenge the DGCA's order.
IndiGo's fine and planned legal challenge highlight the ongoing scrutiny of safety measures at high-risk airports. The DGCA's action follows a previous show cause notice to Air India Express for similar lapses, indicating a broader focus on simulator training standards.
