A Racing Fine: Italian Man Pays €28,000 for 100 Speeding Tickets

Individual Faced with Imposing 28,000 Euro Fine for Blitzer Offense in Italy

Hey there! Ever wondered what it's like to be flashed 100 times by a speed camera in just half a year? An Italian man, Andrea Ferretto, from Nizza Monferrato, Piemont region learned the hard way. He's now hit with a €28,000 fine bill!

Ferretto, who commutes daily between his home and Tortona for work, got caught by a pesky speed camera in Bazzana di Mombaruzzo. However, he isn't convinced about its accuracy, as the camera was positioned in a bend and hidden behind a three-meter-high hedge!

Ferretto argues that the fines are questionable, claiming the camera wasn't properly advertised and was hiding behind a hedge, making it practically invisible - not cool! He reference a Supreme Court of Cassation ruling stating that speed cameras should be visible to drivers.

Did He or Didn't He? A Dispute Over Speedy Ticketing

"Sure, I can make the occasional mistake," Ferretto admitted. "But they can't tell me I was caught speeding every day and got 100 fines in six months."

The fines date back to 2021, trickling in between 2022 and 2023. Being often away for work, Ferretto often discovered the fines late in his mailbox. However, when he received a document listing all offenses and the total amount, it was a total shocker!

Even though his lawyer couldn't help, it was too late to object to the fines, and the documents were flawless. With his monthly income of €1,100, the amount is threatening to wipe him out. Last Friday, he received a threat of vehicle seizure for his only car and motorbike.

It's a Wrap!

However, Ferretto isn't giving up! He demands that the controversial speed camera be relocated and made more visible. "I want to warn others," he said. "I don't want anyone else to go through the same nightmare as me."
