In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and prevent accidents, police forces from Duisburg, Oberhausen, and Krefeld, along with several other organizations, conducted a comprehensive operation on commercial traffic across North Rhine-Westphalia on August 8, 2025. The operation, coordinated by the Police Presidency Düsseldorf, was carried out at nine control points across several cities.

During the operation, officers inspected 591 trucks and controlled 40 vehicle drivers and their vehicles. The checks revealed several instances of non-compliance with traffic regulations. Seven drivers were found to be under the influence of intoxicants, and the driving licenses of three drivers were confiscated. There were 127 instances of speeding violations and 178 distance violations.

In addition, the operation led to three administrative offence proceedings due to unsecured steel scrap loading in a tractor-trailer. There were 58 violations of proper cargo securing and 56 general technical defects on the vehicles. The police also intervened in 18 cases due to issues like insufficient cargo securing, rest time violations, and dangerous goods regulations violations. One vehicle was prohibited because the driver no longer had a valid driving license.

Police Director Reiner Schiffer expressed satisfaction with the operation, stating that it served to maintain safety on the roads and promote compliance with traffic regulations. The Press Office of Police Duisburg can be contacted for further inquiries.

While the operation did not provide specific data on the increase in goods traffic in Duisburg/Krefeld by 2030, it is well-known that these cities are significant logistics and industrial hubs in Germany, especially Duisburg, which hosts one of the world's largest inland ports. The Federal Ministry of Transport predicts a 39% increase in goods traffic by 2030, but without current or detailed statistics from regional or federal transport authorities or relevant studies, precise projections or figures cannot be provided.

Similarly, the operation did not provide information on regular traffic control operations in Duisburg/Krefeld. However, it is common for such operations to increase proportionally with traffic volume to ensure safety and compliance. For authoritative statistics and information on these matters, relevant sources would include the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) in Germany, regional transport agencies for North Rhine-Westphalia, and local municipal transport departments or police traffic control units.

  1. Given the growth forecast in goods traffic by 2030, particularly in Duisburg and Krefeld, the automotive, finance, and public-transit industries may see a corresponding increase in transportation needs and regulation enforcement.
  2. As Duisburg and Krefeld expand as industrial hubs, finance and automotive sectors could find themselves reliant on safe and efficient public-transit to address the anticipated growth in commercial traffic.
  3. To continue ensuring road safety and compliance within the growing transportation industry, regular control operations may become more frequent in cities like Duisburg and Krefeld, much like the comprehensive operation conducted on August 8, 2025.
