Jaguar's Type 00 to Deliver Promising Outlook for Serial Electric Car Production
The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation as Jaguar prepares to launch its new electric lineup, headlined by the highly-anticipated Type 00 grand tourer. This sporty, high-performance electric vehicle is set to revolutionise the luxury car market, boasting an impressive range of up to 430 miles and the ability to charge 200 miles in just 15 minutes.
The Type 00 grand tourer, inspired by the Type 00 concept unveiled last year, is scheduled for a production launch in late 2025 or potentially early/mid 2026. With sales expected to begin soon thereafter, this electric GT is poised to make a significant impact in the premium market.
The Type 00 grand tourer will be the first model to ride on Jaguar's new Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, which will underpin three models: the grand tourer, a large SUV, and a luxury saloon. The grand tourer, with approximately 1000 hp, will offer a range of around 430 miles and will be equipped with ultra-fast charging capabilities.
The Type 00 grand tourer made its debut at Miami Art Week in December 2024, followed by public showings at NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco and Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. The vehicle was initially shown in Miami Pink and London Blue, with a later reveal in French Ultramarine—a deep matte electric blue variant.
Jaguar's move into higher-end electric vehicles involves a significant brand repositioning, targeting buyers of entry-level Bentley and Rolls-Royce models rather than traditional premium brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. This upmarket shift is reflected in the new pricing and features strategy.
Following the Type 00 grand tourer, Jaguar plans to launch two more luxury electric vehicles: a large luxury limousine, positioned as an indirect successor to the discontinued XJ EV, and a large luxury SUV, comparable in size to a Bentley Bentayga. These models are likely scheduled for release by late 2027.
Recent reports suggest that there may be delays in Jaguar's restart, potentially pushing the production launch of the Type 00 grand tourer back by several months. However, with the brand's commitment to innovation and design, fans and industry experts alike eagerly await the arrival of these groundbreaking electric vehicles.
