"Job as an Educator Gives Greatest Fulfillment, Remaining Ambition Unrealized for BYJU's Founder"
Founder of ed-tech behemoth BYJU'S, Byju Raveendran, recently spilled the beans about his unwavering passion for teaching, likening it to an "unfinished dream" for him and his co-founder, Divya Gokulnath. In a candid chat with ANI, Raveendran openly discussed the pressure to shut down BYJU'S during tough times, but he stood firm, refusing to abandon his students midway through their educational journey.
Speaking about the relentless pressure to grow, grow, grow from investors, Raveendran shared how a good teacher would never leave his students half-baked. He candidly acknowledged that when investors suddenly switched tunes, demanding cuts and shutdowns, he felt a strong resistance. In his words, "When all investors asked us to grow, grow, grow, overnight they told that markets are changing, now cut and shut down businesses. I didn't agree with that. The teacher in me stood up and we didn't shut down the businesses. We had to complete the course."
Raveendran and Gokulnath's love for teaching is evident. In fact, the sight of a student seeking enlightenment from their 78-year-old father ignites a spark in their eyes. Teaching is one of the most satisfying jobs, they believe, and it remains an unfinished dream for them.
Raveendran emphasized that education is one sector where students voraciously crave knowledge and parents are willing to make significant sacrifices to ensure their child's learning. He said, "This is one segment which we should own because students are hungry to learn. Parents want their kids to learn. They'll go to any length, sacrifice everything else to make sure that their kids learn."
Despite the recent decline of BYJU'S due to financial woes, regulatory issues, and legal battles, Raveendran remains unfazed. He views these turbulent times as an opportunity to strengthen himself. In his bold words, "Businesses can fail. Business mistakes can be made. But entrepreneurs, true entrepreneurs, they never fail."
Byju's 3.0, the company's ambitious revival plan, is all about focusing on students, teachers, and the transformative power of learning. Raveendran made it clear that while courtroom appearances may be inevitable, he and his team belong in classrooms. He dispelled notions of personal gain, stating that their entire investment is in BYJU'S, and their mission remains resolutely aimed at educating students and empowering teachers.
With a newfound focus on restructuring, rebranding, and revival, Byju's 3.0 aims to create a learning environment that is both engaging and supportive, using AI to enhance the teaching experience rather than replace it. Byju's 3.0 aspires to cultivate a love for learning among students and help underperforming students reach their full potential. So, here's to Byju's 3.0 – a new chapter for the ed-tech giant, rooted in purpose over profit, and dedicated to championing the cause of education.
