JSW Energy activates a 261 MW renewable energy capacity
In a significant move towards a greener future, Indian energy conglomerate JSW Energy announced its ambitious plans for renewable energy expansion and carbon neutrality.
As of July 2025, JSW Energy's renewable energy capacity stands at an impressive 7,102 MW, accounting for 56% of its total installed capacity of 12,760 MW. This remarkable figure comprises 3,554 MW of wind, 2,157 MW of solar, and 1,391 MW of hydro power.
The company has set an ambitious target to scale its generation capacity to a staggering 30 GW by the financial year 2030. To achieve this, JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 29.9 GW, which includes 12.8 GW operational, 12.5 GW under construction, and 4.6 GW in the pipeline.
In terms of energy storage, JSW Energy is also aggressively expanding. The company currently boasts 29.3 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity, with 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage and 2.9 GWh from battery energy storage systems. The target is to expand this capacity to 40 GWh by the financial year 2030.
Significantly, JSW Energy has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, aligning with its sustainability vision and commitment to decarbonization.
The recent quarter saw JSW Energy commission an additional 261 MW of renewable capacity, contributing to a cumulative capacity addition of 1.9 GW during the quarter through both organic growth and acquisitions. The newly commissioned renewable energy capacity consists of 189 MW of solar energy and 72 MW of wind energy.
