Latvian National Opera & Ballet Faces Months-Long Closure Due to Delayed Repairs
The Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) is facing a tight deadline to replace its aging engineering networks and wiring. Delays in negotiations have pushed the completion date close, risking a prolonged suspension of performances.
The LNOB plans to carry out these essential repairs during the summer break when there are no shows. However, the rapid approach of the deadline means the opera may have to be closed for several months. This will unfortunately lead to a restriction of public performances for two months in the following year.
The cause of the delay is bureaucracy, with officials negotiating procurement regulations for over a year. Sandis Voldiņš, chairman of the board of LNOB, has attributed the delay to these negotiations. The expansion works, which were supposed to improve the opera's infrastructure, have been held up due to these talks.
The LNOB is now racing against time to complete the replacement of its engineering networks and wiring. The potential suspension of performances for several months is a setback for the opera and its patrons. The delay, caused by negotiations over procurement regulations, has put the project behind schedule. The LNOB and its officials are working to mitigate the impact of this delay.
