Launching "Skybolt" from Yekaterinburg to Ganina Yam
Revised Article:
Heads up, folks! The "Lastochka" train might be cruisin' between Sredneuralsk and Yekaterinburg in the next few years, according to Ekaterinburg's RBK, citing Sredneuralsk's mayor, Alexey Stasenko.
Stasenko mentions that the project is included in the city's Master Plan and includes building three stations:
- A terminal station near Sredneuralsk's administration building.
- A transit hub at Coptyaki, where a massive residential development is planned.
- A transit hub at Ganiya Yama, a popular destination for the annual pilgrimage of tens of thousands of devotees.
However, there's a hitch—the railway line in Sredneuralsk has been in the hands of a commercial organization for years. Resolving land issues and securing budget funds from Sverdlovsk Oblast is crucial for acquisition, states Stasenko. He didn't provide any details on the exact amounts involved.
Stasenko recently discussed the matter at a meeting with first deputy governor Alexey Shmykov. Participants highlighted the significance of launching "Lastochka" in Sysert and Sredneuralsk.
The Long Road to Direct Rail Service
Plans for direct rail service between Sredneuralsk and Yekaterinburg have been in discussions since at least 2014. The sticking point remains the privately-owned railway line. For over a decade, this legal issue has proven impossible to resolve.
In 2021, a test run of a rail bus took place. The project's estimated cost was 120 million rubles, with intentions to implement it in 2022-2023.
During the summer of 2021, at the "Innoprom" in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Railways presented a concept for an urban metro system. The plan included routes serving cities such as Sredneuralsk, Sysert, and Beresovsky, with "Lastochka" trains running along them.
