Law enforcement inspects commercial vehicles

The police headquarters in Recklinghausen recently carried out vehicle checks across the Recklinghausen district and the independent city of Bottrop on August 8. These checks were part of a larger statewide effort to ensure compliance with regulations regarding driving and rest times, load securing, and tachograph manipulation.

Friederike Zurhausen, the police president, emphasized the importance of teamwork in ensuring road safety. Besides the police, customs, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), the TÜV, and other network partners were involved in the controls. Smooth cooperation is indispensable for such important occasions, as all parties share the common goal of making the roads safer for citizens.

During the checks, a total of 201 vehicles were inspected. While many trucks and buses were able to continue their journey after a short check without any issues, the continuation of the journey was prohibited for seven vehicles due to infringements. No vehicles were impounded due to tachograph manipulation, but indications of such were not found in any of the inspected vehicles.

Overloading and insufficient load securing can lead to severe accidents, according to Friederike Zurhausen. In fact, she stated that the correct securing of the load significantly contributes to traffic safety. Overloading and insufficient load securing can still lead to severe accidents, as explained by the police president.

The controls conducted by the police headquarters Recklinghausen focused on commercial passenger and goods transport. The head of the Police Headquarters Recklinghausen, Friederike Zurhausen, belongs to the police organization of the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Police as the police president of the Recklinghausen Police Presidium, which is one of the 18 police presidia in NRW responsible for policing 11 cities including Recklinghausen.

99 vehicles were identified with infringements, primarily in the areas of driving and rest times of drivers, and load securing regulations. The police do not compromise in these areas, as they are crucial for maintaining road safety. Fines and even imprisonment are imposed for criminal offenses related to the manipulation of tachographs, as explained by Friederike Zurhausen.
