Blockade Protest at Heidelberg Materials in Leimen Leads to Charges and Penalties

In the Rhine-Neckar district, a 26-year-old protester is facing charges after reportedly blocking a cement plant and causing property damage at Heidelberg Materials. The public prosecutor's office confirmed the charges, which include property damage, as stated by a spokesperson.

On April's beginning, the young man and others from the End Cement group allegedly glued themselves to the plant's production site using a sand adhesive mixture. The blockade resulted in a significant loss for Heidelberg Materials, amounting to at least 100,000 euros due to downtime, and an additional 3,600 euros for damages to the access road. The company promptly filed a property damage report after the protest action.

To extract the protesters from the street, specialists required approximately eight hours. End Cement criticized Heidelberg Materials' CO2 emissions and advocated for the adoption of sustainable building materials.

The suspect is also implicated in a separate incident involving the spray-painting of a separate Heidelberg Materials building with green paint, which caused damage estimated at least 30,000 euros. Conviction for property damage could result in two years in prison or a fine, according to the spokesperson.

The public prosecutor's office has also issued penalty orders to other protesters. End Cement claims two of these orders are for property damage of 3,000 euros (60 daily fines of 50 euros each) and one for property damage of 4,000 euros (80 daily fines of 50 euros each). The public prosecutor's office spokesperson mentioned that more penalty orders are related to the protest actions in the region.
