Lenovo's Regional Advancement: Setup of a New Headquarters and Manufacturing Plant in Riyadh to Amplify Saudi Arabia's Digital Transformation

Lenovo, a global technology leader, has announced its strategic plan for growth and innovation in Saudi Arabia. The cornerstone of this plan is the establishment of a Regional Headquarters (RHQ) in Riyadh and a $2 billion partnership with ALAT, a Public Investment Fund (PIF)-owned company, to expand advanced manufacturing in the Kingdom.

The RHQ will be located in the iconic Al Majdoul Tower in Riyadh, a hub already populated by PIF entities, government entities, and tech companies [1][3][5]. The new headquarters is intended to drive Lenovo’s growth and operations in the Middle East, supporting innovation, research and development, and customer engagement through flagship retail and VIP customer centers [2][3][5].

In a significant move, Lenovo and ALAT have broken ground on a 200,000-square-meter advanced manufacturing facility in Riyadh’s Special Integrated Logistics Zone. This factory is set to produce millions of "Saudi-made" devices starting in 2026, contributing to local job creation (up to 60,000 jobs) and boosting non-oil GDP by an estimated $10 billion by 2030 [1][2][3][5].

Lenovo's investments are designed to align closely with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda, which focuses on digital transformation, industrial diversification, and economic growth beyond oil [1][3][4]. The company's initiatives in Saudi Arabia, including the RHQ, flagship retail space, and the Riyadh-based manufacturing facility, are projected to contribute up to USD 10 billion to non-oil GDP by 2030.

The strategic move allows Lenovo to tap into the rapidly growing Gulf IT market (projected 12% CAGR through 2028), diversify its global manufacturing footprint, and benefit from geopolitical shifts favoring Chinese tech firms in the Middle East [1][4].

In addition to the RHQ, Lenovo has announced the appointment of its executive leadership team for Saudi Arabia. Lawrence Yu has been appointed as Head of Regional Headquarters for Lenovo, bringing over 15 years of experience with the company. Mr. Yu led the Lenovo Retail Solutions division to record-breaking performance, achieving 40% annual revenue growth over five years [6].

Zoran Radumilo, with over 25 years of global enterprise technology leadership, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Lenovo Saudi Arabia. Mr. Radumilo's expertise spans AI, cloud, and software solutions, with a strong focus on emerging markets [7].

Giovanni Di Filippo has been appointed Vice President & General Manager for Lenovo Saudi Arabia. Mr. Di Filippo assumes responsibility for all business units within Lenovo Saudi Arabia. His leadership led to market share growth from 6% to 14% as President of EMEA ISG [8].

The Saudi government offers incentives such as a 30-year tax exemption and regulatory support as part of the Riyadh regional headquarters program, enhancing Lenovo’s operational and strategic advantages in the region [3][5].

This strategic move positions Lenovo as a key player in the Kingdom’s technology sector transformation and broader Vision 2030 goals [1][3][5]. The company's investments are designed to accelerate the Kingdom’s drive toward technology-led economic diversification, including advancing smart city technologies and AI initiatives in collaboration with partners like IBM [1][3][4].
