Liverpool Secures National Accreditation for Meeting Set Industry Standards
In a significant step towards enhancing safety and commercial prospects for businesses in the city, Liverpool Business Improvement District (BID) has been awarded National Standards Accreditation by Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI). This accreditation recognises Liverpool BID's high standards in management practices and procedures.
The accreditation process is based on a set of standards owned by the National Business Crime Centre (NBCC), and it aims to recognise good practice and professionalism. It ensures that Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs) function ethically and within the law, specifically in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Liverpool BID works in partnership with Merseyside Police, Liverpool Nightlife CIC, and Liverpool City Council as part of the BID Safety Partnership. This collaboration has resulted in the creation of safer areas within the city, thereby improving commercial prospects for companies.
The accreditation includes good management practices and procedures, such as membership agreements, data security, compliance with current legislation, and up-to-date, easily accessible information. One of the features of Liverpool's BCRP is the BID Radio Link Network, which has over 180 active businesses, providing reassurance and intelligence sharing, operating 24 hours a day using high-quality digital radios. A City Watch officer, funded by the BID, monitors the Radio Link network on Thursdays during retail hours, Friday and Saturday evenings.
Maxine Fraser, Managing Director of Retailers Against Crime CIC, has praised Liverpool BID for its partnership work and daily engagement with businesses. Shaun Holland, Director of Operations at Liverpool BID Company, emphasised the importance of safety and partnership for a vibrant city centre.
The accreditation is expected to enhance partnership working nationally and encourage continued, significant, national business investment in BCRPs. It also underscores the commitment of these partnerships to delivering tangible benefits for the local business community.
Similar initiatives in cities like Bristol and Cardiff have shown that BCRPs facilitate collaboration between local businesses, police, and city councils, helping to reduce crime and improve safety in business districts. They also unlock significant investments in city safety and crime prevention, supporting initiatives that have shown success in reducing crime and improving well-being.
