Flying High Again: Reviving Germany's Aviation Sector with Financial Relief

Let's face it, the aviation game in Germany needs a good ol' boost - and pronto. The newly elected federal government is being pushed hard by the German Aviation Association (BDL) to make our skies more appealing again, especially compared to the competition in Europe.

The BDL, led by ol' Joachim Lang, has a hot list of demands for our new government,Union and SPD: axe that aviation tax, wouldn't that be swell? Alternatively, they'd settle for a hefty reduction in that tax, along with lessening the cost of aviation security and air traffic control.

What's the dealio with the airlines, you ask? Well, it turns out our high costs have 'em packing their planes and shipping 'em off to cheaper lands. This trend's not only impacting the aviation industry here in Germany, but it's also being noticed at airports, like Nuremberg.

Last year we had a whopping 4 million passengers at Nuremberg Airport, nicknamed the Albrecht Dürer Airport. Not bad, considering the post-pandemic uptick. In fact, they're expecting to welcome more than 4.3 million passengers by the end of this year, as classic vacay spots reignite travel traffic.

  1. In light of the pressing demands from the German Aviation Association, it's crucial for the federal government to consider community aid and finance research and development programs for the aviation sector, aiming to create a competitive environment that keeps up with European competition.
  2. To counter the trend of aircraft relocation and save the aviation industry, the federal government, in collaboration with the German Aviation Association, could consider funding a research project specifically focused on reducing high costs associated with aviation tax, security, and air traffic control, with the ultimate goal of keeping fliers within Germany's skies.
