Lörrach Fire Department Receives Second CBRN Rescue Vehicle in Freiburg Region

Baden-Württemberg's population protection and firefighting services have seen a steady upgrade and modernisation of their CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) rescue vehicles. These acquisitions and allocations are regularly announced in press releases, on fire department websites, or in official intranets. As of December 2023, the second such vehicle in the Freiburg government presidency's region was allocated to the Lörrach fire department. Recently, on 20.09.2025, a CBRN reconnaissance seminar was held, focusing on the handover of new vehicles.

The Freiburg government presidency's region includes the districts of Lörrach, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Emmendingen, Waldshut, Schwarzwald-Baar, Ortenau, Rottweil, Tuttlingen, Konstanz, and the city of Freiburg. The first fire department in this area to receive a CBRN rescue vehicle was Freiburg city's fire department. The second was Lörrach's fire department, as reported in local news and documented on relevant websites. These vehicles are crucial for swift emergency response during hazardous material incidents, attack scenarios, or major disasters. The recent seminar, held on 20.09.2025, saw Konstanz's hazardous materials unit participate. It offered five practical stations, including demonstrations of new measurement technology and software, practical exercises, and presentations by the Analytical Task Force (ATF) Mannheim. The event provided an opportunity for mutual exchange and discussion of new findings and experiences. Notably, the seminar focused on the handover of new CBRN reconnaissance vehicles provided by the federal government since February 2025. Two fire departments in the Freiburg government presidency's area have already received these new vehicles.
