Briefing
Major retailers Walmart and Target join Amazon in commencement of pre-holiday sales early this season.
After Amazon's announcement of its fall Prime sales event, taking place October 10-12, several retail giants have countered with their own deals. Walmart, for instance, revealed Walmart Deals - Holiday Kickoff from October 9-12, offering online discounts on electronics, home, fashion, and toys. Target, too, announced the return of Target Circle Week from October 1-7, promising "deep discounts" for Target Circle members. Best Buy, on the other hand, announced its holiday sneak peek, with holiday deals this year including a 48-hour flash sale starting October 10 featuring discounts on TVs, laptops, headphones, and smartwatches.
Insight
With announcements of early holiday sales dropping around Halloween, weeks before the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, retailers are responding to a challenging economy that has kept consumers hesitant to splurge on non-essential purchases. As the economy has remained tough throughout the first half of the year, retailers are rolling out these early sales to meet customer expectations for savings and convenience.
"We know Walmart customers are shopping early and looking for the best deals," a Walmart representative shared. Shoppers can check out the deals at Walmart's holiday kickoff savings event either online or through the Walmart app. Target, too, is promoting its Deal of the Day, offering deep daily discounts on brands like Apple, Dyson, and Nintendo from October 1 until December 24.
Meanwhile, Best Buy is promoting October as Member Exclusive Month. Every day in October, members of its Plus and Total loyalty programs will gain access to thousands of deals and discounts on popular consumer tech products. Additionally, members who spend $500 in October will receive a $50 reward certificate to use on Best Buy purchases in December. Best Buy is also providing early access to some Black Friday deals from October 27-29 for loyalty program members.
