In a significant move for Malaysia's energy sector, Tuan Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MyPower Corporation, effective June 23, 2025. This appointment was announced in early July 2025 [2][1].

Asirhyme, who previously served as the undersecretary of sustainable energy at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra), steps into his new role at a pivotal time for Malaysia’s energy sector. His leadership is crucial as MyPower Corporation plays a significant role as the implementing agency for Malaysia's Nuclear Energy Programme under the country's 13th Malaysia Plan.

The corporation is central to advancing Malaysia's nuclear power initiatives, reflecting the government's push to roll out a nuclear power program as part of the nation's energy transition strategy [4]. MyPower's nuclear energy development plans involve collaboration with Rosatom Energy Projects, a Russian state atomic agency involved in the agreement for knowledge sharing in nuclear energy development.

Meanwhile, the Energy Commission, responsible for regulating electricity and piped gas supply in Peninsular Malaysia, has recently initiated a major restructuring of electricity tariffs. Under the new tariff structure, network and retail charges have been lowered, but large energy users such as data centres face higher grid costs [3].

To address these structural issues across the electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and retail, MyPower Corporation has been appointed as a special-purpose agency tasked with organizing key reforms under the Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) initiative. The MESI initiative is a long-term reform framework aimed at enhancing the reliability, transparency, efficiency, and sustainability of electricity supply operations in Peninsular Malaysia.

It's important to note that the Malaysian nuclear energy programme had been shelved following the 2018 cessation of operations by the Malaysia Nuclear Power Corp. However, Malaysia is now exploring the revival of its nuclear energy programme. The revival of this programme marks an important step towards a sustainable and reliable energy future for Malaysia.

With Asdirhyme's extensive experience in sustainable energy and his new role at MyPower, he is well-positioned to lead the corporation in navigating the challenges and opportunities of nuclear energy development, contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future for Malaysia.
