MDV Transport Association Increases Ticket Costs for Passengers
Central German Transport Association (MDV) Announces Ticket Price Increase
Starting from August 1st, 2025, passengers in the Central German Transport Association (MDV) area will see an increase in ticket prices. The MDV, which provides regional rail services in cities such as Halle and Leipzig, as well as in the states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, has attributed the price increase to higher daily operating costs and wages.
The most significant changes will be seen in the prices of single tickets. In Leipzig, the cost will rise from 3.50 euros to 3.60 euros, and in Halle, it will increase from 3.00 euros to 3.40 euros. Two-zone tickets will now cost 4.80 euros, an increase from the previous 4.50 euros.
For those needing to travel across three zones, the price will go up from 6.20 euros to 6.60 euros. The four-hour valid association-wide ticket will also see a rise, going from 13.40 euros to 14.20 euros.
The average increase in ticket prices is estimated to be between 5 to 6 percent. The MDV has provided information about all the ticket price changes on its official website. It's important to note that the transport association has not specified ticket price changes for locations beyond those mentioned.
The MDV's decision to increase ticket prices comes amidst an increase in passenger numbers due to the affordable Germany ticket, the Deutschlandticket. However, the transport providers have not seen a corresponding increase in revenues, which is another factor contributing to the price increase.
Passengers are advised to check the MDV's website for the most up-to-date information on ticket prices and any other changes that may affect their travel.
[1] These increases reflect the general rise of about 5 to 6 percent due to higher operating costs, wages, and impacts from the low-cost Deutschlandticket, which has increased passenger numbers without a corresponding rise in revenues. The MDV area includes the cities of Halle and Leipzig and surrounding districts.
[1] The ticket price increases in the MDV area, affecting cities such as Halle and Leipzig, are partly due to the finance sector's rise in operating costs and wages.
[2] The ‘Deutschlandticket’ has led to an increase in passenger numbers, but the revenue has not followed suit in the finance and transportation industries, contributing to the price hikes in the MDV area.
