Monastery Cross Closure in Koblenz: Public Access Prohibited
In the heart of Koblenz, the city is undergoing a transformation as Südallee is being converted into a "Fahrradstraße," prioritizing bicycles. Here's what you need to know about the updated traffic rules and accessibility in the area.
Starting from August 4, the intersection of Südallee and Johannes-Müller-Straße will be completely closed for ongoing work. Motor vehicle access via this intersection is restricted or prohibited, and cars can no longer use it to pass between Südallee and Johannes-Müller-Straße.
Südallee, now a Fahrradstraße, prioritizes bicycles. Motor vehicles are allowed but must adapt their behaviour to prioritize cyclists. Bicycles have priority throughout Südallee, including at its intersections. Speed limits are usually reduced on Fahrradstraßen, often to about 30 km/h or less. Signage at the intersection and adjacent streets will indicate the new restrictions and bicycle priority, including no-through-traffic signs or "except bicycles" notices for motor vehicles.
The main entrance of the Evangelical Stift remains accessible, but only via Johannes-Müller-Straße from Kurfürstenstraße. The taxi stands at the main entrance are temporarily relocated. The emergency room of the Stift can still be reached via Ludwigstraße and Südallee, and a temporary exit has been set up for emergency vehicles.
Pedestrians can still pass through the construction site at Südallee/Johannes-Müller-Straße. Lost disabled parking spaces will be replaced by newly designated spots on Südallee.
After the reopening of the intersection of Rizzastraße, cars will no longer be able to turn from Rizzastraße southbound into Südallee. However, the entrance to Südallee at Max-von-Laue-Gymnasium will be reopened for residents. A continuous bike connection from Friedrich-Ebert-Ring to Roonstraße will be created upon reopening of the intersection of Rizzastraße.
It's important to note that all adjacent streets will become dead ends due to the closure. The original traffic rules will apply at the intersection of Rizzastraße once it reopens. Priority must be given at the intersection of Rizzastraße to Südallee in the future.
For precise details and any additional local rules, it’s best to consult the Koblenz city traffic authority or their official publications, as updates may include further restrictions or alternative routes for cars.
Stay informed and adjust your travel plans accordingly as Koblenz continues to evolve with the introduction of the Fahrradstraße on Südallee.
In the transformation of Koblenz, the finance industry may need to adjust their routes for office commutes, as motor vehicle access is restricted at the intersection of Südallee and Johannes-Müller-Straße. The transportation sector could consider alternative transportation methods like bicycles, as Südallee prioritizes cyclists over motor vehicles.
