Know those unexplained surges in fuel prices? Well, they're not just random. According to the ADAC's latest analysis, the gap in Super E10 fuel prices between the daily high in the morning and the low in the evening has skyrocketed to a whopping 12.5 cents per liter! Diesel isn't far behind at 13.3 cents. That's the max for E10 since ADAC started tracking and the second-highest for diesel ever. Last year, prices barely budged, swinging around six to seven cents all day long.

If you wanna put some extra cash back in your pocket, consider riding the fuel price rollercoaster. Christian Laberer, ADAC's fuel market guru, recommends it. Essentially, fuel prices take a nosedive around 6:00 AM, reaching their peak just after 7:00 AM, during rush hour. Diesel runs about 9 cents pricier than the daily average at that time, while Super E10 is 8 cents costlier. However, the prices drop like a stone by 9:00 AM, barely touching the daily average (up just 2 cents). They then tick up a tad, hover, and finally ace their descent towards the evening low. Around noon, the fuel prices are already 2 cents under the daily average, and by evening they're 4 to 5 cents cheaper, dipping to the lowest around 8:00 PM. After 10:00 PM, the prices inch up again, staying steady overnight before resurfacing sharply the next morning.

In a nutshell, the ADAC points out eight daily price peaks screaming "Stay Away!" But remember, there's no guarantee you'll catch the absolute lowest price of the evening, but it's a roll of the dice worth taking, according to them. At the start of the year, the Federal Cartel Office reported an average of 22 price changes per gas station, with some stations boasting over 50 changes in a day! So, fortune favors the bold.
