Motorola Solutions finishes the purchase of Silvus Technologies Holding Inc.
Motorola Solutions Acquires Silvus Technologies for $4.4 Billion
Motorola Solutions has announced its acquisition of Silvus Technologies Holdings Inc., a global leader in mission-critical mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), for $4.4 billion. The acquisition will amplify Motorola's ability to build more powerful solutions for global customers, particularly in defense, public safety, and autonomous systems.
Silvus' technology allows human operators to securely control autonomous systems with extremely low latency. Its advanced solutions are trusted in demanding defense environments and offer applications for border security and public safety. The MANET technology provides critical communications without fixed infrastructure, high-bandwidth support for video and sensor data, scalability, and resilience in contested or degraded environments.
In defense, Silvus' MANET enables tactical communications that link personnel, vehicles, drones, and command centers into a unified, robust network without fixed infrastructure. This enhances situational awareness and operational decision-making with secure voice, data, and video streams. In public safety and emergency response, Silvus MANET radios work independently of traditional networks, allowing first responders and disaster management teams to maintain critical, reliable communication during natural disasters or high-risk tactical events where infrastructure may be compromised.
For autonomous systems, Silvus technology supports the communication needs of drones and unmanned vehicles by delivering reliable, secure links over long distances. This enables autonomous operations in defense and border security, allowing operators to effectively manage autonomous platforms over dynamic operational areas.
Babak Daneshrad, CEO of Silvus Technologies, expressed respect for Motorola Solutions' leadership. TJC, a venture capital firm, has praised Silvus for building an exceptional company serving a critical need. Motorola Solutions plans to extend Silvus' reach through its global scale and long-standing relationships with government and public safety customers.
The purchase agreement includes the potential for earnout consideration of up to $600 million based on business performance. Both Silvus Technologies and Motorola Solutions are driven by innovation for safety. The acquisition will be discussed further during Motorola Solutions' quarterly conference call on Aug. 7.
In addition to the acquisition, DMP, a security solutions provider, has introduced a new product, JamAlert, a detection device designed to combat the growing threat of illegal cellular signal jammers.
