Watch Out for Job Scams and Dishonest Travel Agencies in Kazakhstan! 🚨

Hey there! Swindlers have been on the rise, posing as employment agencies and travel operators, luring unsuspecting individuals with promises of overseas jobs with sky-high salaries and cheap vacation packages, our site revealed, backed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Have a close look at the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and you'll find that, due to the growing number of fraud cases, the government urges citizens to be extra vigilant when hunting for jobs overseas and booking accommodations within the country.

These con artists masquerade as recruitment agencies, travel operators, or private individuals, offering:

  • Employment abroad with alleged high salaries, with only a "quick interview" and no language skills or experience required;
  • Apartment rentals, rest houses, and tourist services supposedly offered at heavily discounted "promotional" prices.

After tricking victims into making the upfront payment, these scammers vanish into thin air, leaving their targets high and dry with no money and assistance.

So, how can you spot these scams? Here are some red flags:

  • Insisting on prepayment for services, "booking," or document processing;
  • Lack of an official website, physical address, and valid licenses;
  • Correspondence exclusively through messenger apps, with refusals to meet in person;
  • Use of fake contracts, forged reviews, and clone websites.

To protect yourself, it's recommended that:

  • Verify the company's legitimacy: check for licenses, registration data, BIN, and other essential documents;
  • Refuse to transfer money without an official contract;
  • Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true;
  • Keep your passport data and document copies to yourself;
  • Use only trusted and recommended services for job placement abroad and accommodation rental within the country.

If you unfortunately fall victim to one of these scams, report it to the police immediately. Your report will contribute towards bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing future crimes.

In the past, the Ministry of Tourism alerted Kazakhstanis to double-check travel companies, emphasizing the importance of having a notification of tour agency activity and a valid tour operator license before booking. To help citizens, they even published a list of licensed travel operators and travel agents.

Recently, a citizen in Akmolinsk lost 1.4 million tenge on a vacation and had to wait several months before getting his money back following the intervention of the criminal police. Meanwhile, a criminal case has been filed against the director of a travel agency in Almaty for fraudulently amassing tens of millions of tenge, with 33 incidents involved.

Remember that the prospect of an affordable vacation is always enticing. However, tantalizing deals online and on social media might lead to financial loss. Educate yourself on how to dodge scams by reading our article.

In light of the growing number of job scams and fraudulent travel agencies in Kazakhstan, it is essential to verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies, travel operators, or private individuals offering employment abroad or accommodation within the country. Be wary of insistent prepayment requests, lack of official documents, and communication solely through messenger apps.

To stay protected, citizens should check for licenses, registration data, and BIN, refuse to transfer money without an official contract, and use only trusted and recommended services for job placement abroad and accommodation rental within Kazakhstan. If unfortunate enough to fall victim to such scams, immediately report it to the police, as any report helps in bringing perpetrators to justice and preventing future crimes in the field of general-news, finance, and crime-and-justice.
