Revamped Summer Launch: North Rhine-Westphalia Quizzes Towns on Refugee Payment Cards

Rural Restart Assessment of Municipalities for Credit Card Payments - Nation initiates a poll among local governments regarding payment card usage

Have you thought about welcoming the payment card for refugees in your town this summer? Well, it's time to decide! The state's got a digital survey ready and waiting for your input by no later than May's end. Want to know more? Here's a brief breakdown:

The Ministry of Refugees has taken the initiative to gauge town interest in implementing this innovative solution. If you're eager to participate, simply fill out the survey and indicate the number of cards required. But, worry not, it's just an inquiry; there's no rigid deadline attached.

You might have heard about the letter circulating from the Düsseldorf regional government, prompting towns to join the online survey. In this survey, the ministry has shared that the payment cards will be available to order from late June onwards from the service provider. Once ordered, the provider will train the necessary staff to have the systems ready within four weeks. This means your town could be rolling out the card as early as July or August!

In case you prefer to forgo this option, the so-called opt-out regulation gives you the freedom to do so. Some municipalities like Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Aachen have already declared their intention to do so.

Lisa Kapteinat, deputy faction leader of the SPD in the state parliament, isn't impressed. She claims the state government has "cooked up a right mess" with the payment card design for North Rhine-Westphalia. Kapteinat fears the state might gradually bury the program with this disorganized approach.
