Nestle's Nescafe Brand Exceeds Sustainable Coffee Farming Target

In a significant step towards sustainable coffee production, Nescafe's regenerative agriculture initiative has made remarkable progress and surpassed its initial targets. As of 2025, the company sourced 32% of its coffee from farms employing regenerative agriculture practices, surpassing the 2025 goal of 30%.

This shift has resulted in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, with participants achieving a reduction ranging from 20% to 40% of GHG emissions per kilogram of green coffee in 2024. This reduction not only enhances environmental sustainability but also bolsters supply chain resilience.

The initiative has also seen over 17,000 coffee farmers across four countries trained in regenerative agriculture practices. This training focuses on sustainable productivity, income growth, and gender sensitivity, aiming to improve farmer incomes and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Nestle's commitment to regenerative agriculture aligns with its net-zero ambitions. As part of a wider initiative, the company has planted 2.8 million trees to sequester 1.5 million tons of CO₂ over 30 years, reinforcing its net-zero commitments. Key regions like Brazil, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria have benefited from these reforestation efforts.

Axel Touzet, Head of Nestle's Coffee Brands Strategic Business Unit, stated that regenerative agriculture is at the heart of the Nescafe Plan and their efforts to build resilience in their coffee supply chain. The Nescafe Plan 2030, launched by Nestle in 2022, focuses on helping farmers in its supply chain transition to regenerative agriculture practices.

Regenerative agriculture practices result in increased yields and more climate-resilient soils. These practices also improve the resilience of soils to climate change. Furthermore, they include techniques to improve and restore ecosystems, build soil health and fertility, reduce emissions, enhance watershed management, increase biodiversity, and improve farmers' livelihoods.

Nestle's coffee brand Nescafe sourced nearly a third of its coffee from farmers implementing regenerative agriculture practices in 2024. This achievement was announced in Nescafe's Nescafe Plan 2030 Progress Report. The increased adoption rates of regenerative agricultural practices by farmers are encouraging for Nescafe to continue its work with partners, suppliers, and farmers.

The Nescafe Plan 2030 currently covers more than 400,000 hectares of coffee farmlands. Nestle's initiatives include supporting farmers to optimize fertilization, soil cover, mulching, and composting. The focus on regenerative agriculture practices has shown farmers becoming increasingly aware of their benefits.

In addition to these efforts, Nestle has committed to investing over $1 billion in the Nescafe Plan 2030 by 2030. The company's goal is to reach 50% of coffee from farms with regenerative agricultural practices by 2030.
